Get to know the stories behind the people who drive our success at Stingray Advisory Group. In this spotlight, we're highlighting Leandra Nisbet, Founder and Owner of Stingray Advisory Group, whose vision and leadership guide everything we do.
At Stingray Advisory Group, empowering small businesses to grow with confidence is at the heart of everything we do. That commitment starts at the top! Today, we're proud to spotlight Leandra Nisbet, Founder and Owner of Stingray Advisory Group.
Leandra is the driving force behind our mission, strategy and impact. She's involved in everything from shaping the overall strategy to working directly with clients. She cares about the details, but never loses sight of where a business is trying to go. More than anything, she works alongside entrepreneurs as a real partner, helping them think through challenges, make confident decisions and build a foundation that truly supports their next level of growth.
Let's take a closer look at Leandra and her story with Stingray.
1. What's your role at Stingray Advisory Group?
I am the founder and owner of Stingray Advisory Group and am very proud and honored to lead my team, to be a support and resource for our clients, and to be able to build and foster relationships within our communities that we serve.
2. What would you like to share about your own professional journey?
When I think back on my professional journey, what I like to reflect on is all the things that I've learned along the way, even in roles or positions that were challenging or were not really aligned with me and how I show up and how I like to serve and engage. Even in those roles, there were still things that I took away from them that I leveraged today.
Sometimes it might be things that were really helpful and beneficial that I've gathered. Other times it was learning what I don't want — non-negotiables, boundaries, things that are counter to how I show up in rooms and spaces and environments, which I think is equally as important.
3. The best advice for someone who is just starting their professional journey
The best advice that I would give someone who is just starting in their professional journey is to put yourself out there, to be vocal and to try. I think it's very common, and I know it was for me at times, to feel like I was only in the role that I was given so there really wasn't opportunity or space to do more than that.
Over time though, I found that when I spoke up and was vocal about what I wanted and shared more about my skills, other abilities, other interests, that's when things really started to click and align for me. I would encourage you, as you're moving forward, if you are starting out in a new role as a team member, to think about that and what's next and how you can really shine and use your talents and capabilities within that role and beyond what's written in the job description.
If you are starting your own business, think about that as well. What really aligns with you and how you want to serve your customers or your clients? Not the cookie cutter version that you feel that you need to fit the mold of, and really challenge yourself to put yourself out there and be vocal, even when it's hard, and articulate those things, because that's when you're really going to shine and be able to actually enjoy what you're doing all the time.
4. Any other insights you would like to share?
For my fellow female entrepreneurs in particular, another insight that I would share is not to sell yourself short. By that, I mean from all perspectives and angles. Whether that's:
- Discounting your knowledge and skills.
- Thinking that, because things are easy for you, it's automatically easy for everyone else.
- Discounting the work experience, the life experience that you have and things that you bring into the work that you're doing each and every day.
Those skills are tremendously valuable and impactful. Those are generally the differentiators and the little unique nuances that resonate most with people. They're also generally the ones that were the fastest to ignore and push to the side.
5. One message to aspiring entrepreneurs
One parting message for all of us, myself included, is that you have to be willing to put yourself out there. You have to be willing to speak up, to share your ideas, to try things before they feel ready, to let people know what you have to offer — product, service, it doesn't matter. If we don't, we're going to have hobbies or passion projects or a plethora of ideas that never actually make it out into the world.
So my main message here is really just to take action. That's how you're going to learn the most, even when it feels challenging or nerve-wracking. That's where you're going to be able to get feedback, insights and data — and all of these things will help you with making future decisions.
